Teacher - Drama

The Camden City School District is seeking a dynamic, creative, highly organized, and team-oriented professional to run the Theater Education department. Under the general direction of the principal, the Theater Education Director in addition to teaching is responsible for planning programs and creating relationships with artists, educators, academic departments, and community members to fulfill the mission of the CAMVA School of Camden City School District. This includes overseeing the Season, planning and implanting the Summer Arts Program, and coordinating outreach efforts for the performing arts center with other  departments and outside organizations


 

The Teacher – Drama  will serve as a classroom leader who works to provide exceptional instruction that affords all students the opportunity to excel academically and meet production standards related to Theatre/Drama. The candidate will bring content-specific expertise to instructional planning and delivery in order to equip students with the skills necessary to succeed in the art of a theatre production delivering specific instruction.  Through this role, the Teacher – Drama will work relentlessly to increase student achievement levels by consistently setting rigorous academic and behavioral goals for students, monitoring progress towards these goals, and adjusting course when necessary. The Teacher will work to actively build positive and beneficial relationships with parents, guardians and community members in order to positively impact their students’ academic performance.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Theater Education Director also manages some after-school programming, creates programming that address community needs, and organizes opportunities for professional development opportunities in arts education and arts integration for educators and artists. In addition to developing the technical theater program and curriculum. This position is responsible for pursuing grants and, as well as implementing program budgets within the Theater Education department. Finally, the Theater Education Director will support performances and events, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA)  degree required with a minimum of 2 years of experience in: K-12 education OR arts education/arts organization work OR community outreach/program development.
  • New Jersey Standard or Provisional Teaching Certificate in Drama 
  • Prior experience teaching low-income students in an urban setting (strongly preferred)
  • Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong technical, grant writing and project management skills. Successful at acquiring funding. Knowledge of technical theater.

QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major roles and responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a classroom leader by providing high quality, differentiated instruction to students
  • Setting rigorous academic and behavioral goals for students and investing students in these goals
  • Implementing and effectively modifying instruction aligned to the district’s educational goals by focusing on high standards and achievement for all students
  • Planning and delivering content that covers, but is not limited to, apparel and textile production
  • Designing and implementing high-quality, thorough lesson, unit, and long-term plans that equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to master daily objectives and content standards
  • Co-planning with Special Education Teachers when necessary to ensure that the academic and behavioral needs of each student are met
  • Continuously tracking student achievement data and using the data to inform instructional planning and delivery 
  • Preparing, leveraging and delivering constructive feedback to students aimed at improving their academic performance 
  • Consistently implementing and enforcing rules and consequences in the classroom setting and school-wide
  • Providing continuous evaluation of student progress that is consistent with district established goals and policies, and clearly communicating this progress to all necessary stakeholders
  • Maintaining, monitoring, and reporting students’ grade and attendance records 
  • Taking personal responsibility for students’ mastery of academic standards
  • Effectively and innovatively incorporating technological resources into classroom lessons
  • Committing to continual professional growth that leads students to achieve the greatest learning gains 
  • Communicating effectively with students, families and colleagues in order to invest all stakeholders in the learning process
  • Attending and actively participating in all professional development, team planning and data analysis meetings
  • Will be required to support projects and initiatives in other divisions and departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basis
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Supervisor’s designee
