Project Engineer Internship

Leopardo is looking for Interns for the Summer of 2023. The internship will include opportunities for both in-office and field experiences. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Assist and support Estimating, Field Operations / Safety, and Project Management in planning, directing and coordinating designated project activities to ensure all goals and objectives are met. The Project Engineer Intern will participate in Leopardo’s intern training program, which encompasses operational, administrative, and sales and marketing activities.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are essential in the daily execution of the position:
Estimating Support – responsible to assist estimating staff to:
  • Review bid documents to create quantity take-offs; develop RFI’s as required. 
  • Participate in jobsite walkthroughs to verify actual field conditions.
  • Develop a list of qualified subcontract bidders using PowerTools to attain the per trade requirements. Communicate with subcontract bidders to increase coverage if necessary.
  • Receive and analyze Subcontractor bids as they relate to drawings, specifications and scope of work using bid day form. 
Field Operations /Safety Support – responsible to assist field operations / safety staff to: 
  • Maintain daily logs, which document day-to-day job activities; participate in Subcontractor meetings to coordinate activities.
  • Complete daily jobsite walk to review conditions / progress and assist in completing audits, inspections and daily logs. 
  • Maintain construction documents on site. Participate in coordination and pre-installation meetings. Generate field documentation to assist the LEED Project Coordinator in final submission to approving authorities.  
  • Generate punchlist, determine responsible subcontractor for each item and follow up with subcontractor(s) to ensure timely completion.
  • Work on site and interact with clients, owner’s reps or end users/unit owners as required by a project.
Project Management - responsible to assist project management staff to:
  • Monitor a detailed master construction schedule and track critical dates of all activities affecting the project completion (Owner, Architect, Consultants, Contractor, Subcontractors, Municipalities, Equipment Suppliers, Site Due Diligence, etc.); provide updates as required.  
  • Review and process submittals, shop drawings and RFI’s. Establish, maintain and update logs that meet Company or Owner’s specifications.
  • Participate in pre, weekly (e.g. OAC, MEP Coordination, Pre-installation, etc.) and post construction meetings. 
  • Maintain change order log to review weekly status of changes.
  • Project completion closeout documentation.  
  • Ensure correct setup and maintenance of filing and archiving systems.

Physical Demands: Representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The employee is consistently required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk through construction sites while maneuvering over unlevel or loose ground, up and down ladders, temporary staircases, and up and down hills; uses hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, and, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds but frequently it is 10 pounds or less. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must have the ability to travel when required.
Work Environment: Representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet. However, on a project site the environment is occasionally loud.
