Engineering Intern

The Engineering Intern will focus on assisting the Traffic and Transportation Division within the Engineering Department. Specific assignments will vary depending upon needs and interest, but may include work in areas such as civil engineering, design, data collection, site plan review, traffic studies, signal design and installation, or other areas.

Note: This is a paid Spring/Summer internship allowing candidates to work up to 40 hours per week.

Job Duties:

  • Work with designated staff to set development goals to satisfy internship/school requirements;
  • Research and complete assigned projects by accessing websites and contacting necessary parties;
  • Collect and analyze traffic data and prepare reports;
  • Review site development plans and prepare comments;
  • Attend meetings;
  • Acquire knowledge of city departmental functions;
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests and related information to plan and design projects;
  • Assist with the development of design drawings, specifications and cost estimates for capital improvement projects;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment at an accredited college or university in undergraduate or graduate studies with completion of at least two (2) years (60 semester hours) and a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
  • Preference will be given to current students of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Traffic Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation or AutoCADD Civil 3D preferred.
  • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
