Forensic Engineer (Mechanical/Civil/Automotive)

Kinetic Engineering (KEARS) is looking for bright, curious engineers to join our team and learn how to reconstruct motor vehicle accidents in Florida. Each accident is a different, real-world problem with real-world people. Our clients include law firms and insurance companies.


As part of our team, you will:

  • Inspect accident scenes and vehicles in South Florida
  • Collect physical evidence using high-tech equipment (drones, 3D laser scanners, digital cameras)
  • Download event data from vehicles
  • Analyze evidence to determine speeds, collision forces, and occupant kinematics
  • Learn simulation programs, 3-D modeling, and photogrammetry
  • Read and synthesize many file materials
  • Present your findings in written reports and 3D graphics
  • Research and test accident reconstruction methods and technologies
  • Develop your communication skills with clients

Requirements include:

  • Strong desire to learn and advance as an engineer and a problem-solver
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Mechanical aptitude and/or understanding of automotive mechanics
  • Solid understanding of engineering math and physics 
  • Time management skills 
  • Proficiency in CAD or similar software, MathCAD, and MS Office
  • Experience with simulations or 3-D modeling (preferred)
  • Excellent reading comprehension and/or ability to take notes
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. and to work outdoors in the hot Florida climate
  • Clean driving record, as you will be responsible for driving company vehicles
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship

Work includes office time and field inspections. You may travel within two hours' driving distance at least twice a week. Your hours may flex depending on travel and inspection urgency. We require pre-employment drug testing and background screen.
