Architect III

Under the general direction of the Architectural Project Manager, the Architect III defines the scope of and coordinates capital projects, including new construction and alterations. The Architect III is responsible for all aspects of a project from conception through construction and closeout.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Technical 

  • Provide project design services including programming, schematic design, design development, and contract documents associated with a building project.  
  • Develop all cost estimates associated with a building project, such as design, administrative, inspection, environmental, and inflation.
  • Direct and oversee contracted design firms for project design services, including programming, schematic design, design development, contract documents, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct field inspections during construction to ensure compliance with the contract documents and the design intent.

 Project Management and Supervision 

  • Prepare cost estimates to ensure projects stay within budgetary limitations throughout the design process; determine that funds are properly allocated for each phase of the project.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and payment requests; respond to and evaluate requests for information (RFIs) and contract modifications during the construction phase.
  • To fully develop the scope of capital projects, coordinate internal resources and external consultants involved with design and construction.
  • Prepare bid documents, notify potential contractors of pending bid notices, and review and recommend bids to award.
  • Oversee construction administration services, including attending project construction meetings; review, approve, and prepare change orders.
  • Prepare and monitor individual project schedules.
  • Prepare and/or review studies, reports, and budget estimates for proposed capital projects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must be able to climb ladders or scaffolding for above and below grade conditions.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in architecture from a National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited architecture program.
  2. Four years of experience as a design professional performing duties related to those above.
  3. Valid State of Wisconsin driver's license at time of appointment and throughout employment.

 

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

 

CURRENT SALARY

The current salary range (PR 2MN) is $94,758 - $112,137 annually, and the current resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $97,601-$115,501. Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon qualifications and is subject to approval.

Those with a Registered Architect license will be paid an additional 3%.
