Electrical Engineering Manager

LSI

The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the electrical engineering team and for meeting the tactical and strategic goals of their managers. The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for the oversight and implementation of all electrical engineering work and activities within LSI. Implements and maintains policies and procedures for designing, testing, installing, and maintaining electronic equipment or devices. Reviews and approves new or revised designs, testing or installation procedures.

Essential Job Functions

•    Manages and leads an IPT (Integrated Project Team) during various phases of project/program development and testing, providing goals, direction, daily tasking and recurring feedback to         team members.
•    Provides electrical engineering recommendations and technical support on electrical engineering reviews, strategic plans, and projects.
•    Monitors and manages electrical engineering projects to ensure work is conducted within scope, estimated cost, and meets quality standards and expectations.
•    Provides electrical design status updates to program/project managers upon request and/or a regularly scheduled basis to be determined by the project needs.
•    Identifies risk associated with electrical design and contract specifications for projects and recommends mitigation strategy.
•    Develops a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and schedule for the EE elements of a project when required.
•    Ensures all electrical engineering deliverables meet the project standards and specifications by enforcing adherence to QA policies and procedures.
•    Ensures on-time product development by collaborating with other Functional Managers and Project Managers to estimate reasonable and precise schedules and solve problems quickly.
•    Solid understanding of Software portions of projects, extending over the fine line between hardware (EE) and software (SW). For example, test software, custom test scripts, firmware loading,        Linux debug, log file analysis.
•    Uses and selects test equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, meters, power supplies, etc.

•    Provides indoctrination and training for new EE employees.
•    Provides guidance and professional development to team of engineers.
•    Ensures electrical engineering projects/programs are properly staffed and milestones are achieved. Screens resumes and holds interviews for potential new EE employees.
•    Holds meetings with the EE team as necessary.
•    Participates in Change Control Boards (CCB).
•    May conduct performance/project analyses during phase-down to benefit future/other projects/missions/programs.
•    Identifies potential scheduling issues and communicates these with other functional managers in a timely manner to deal with the problems.
•    When designated, attends meeting and planning conferences. May be required to conduct briefings and have direct interface with customers and project/program stakeholders. Delivers      organized and informed presentations.
•    Ensures all EE employees maintain their work under the designated configuration management system.
•    Must be capable of estimating time and effort during proposal activities based on general requirements provided by customers.
•    Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
•    Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
•    Performs other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

•    Manages electrical engineering team. Provides initial 90-day performance evaluation, performance appraisals, and annual performance evaluations for EE team members. Makes recommendations to the VP or Director of Engineering for merit increases and bonuses. Establishes and communicates performance expectations for EE team members. Identifies unsatisfactory performance/behavior of EE team members and documents counseling and remediation plans.
•    Ensures all employees under his or her purview complete annual HR training, Security training, Safety training, OPSEC training, and other training as required by the LSI Board of Directors.
 

Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•    Must be able to work well in a high paced and demanding environment and is able to maintain professional composure while effectively managing multiple projects and tasks with competing priorities, simultaneously.
•    Must be familiar with ASME standards as they pertain to electrical design and drawings.
•    Must have a moderate level of knowledge of C/C++ coding language.
•    Must have advanced understanding of hardware and software integration and be able to communicate and resolve complex hardware/software integration issues.
•    Able to travel on short notice as the job requires.
•    Knowledge of interviewing and hiring rules and regulations and the skill to review resumes, interview candidates and select effective employees is preferred.
•    Knowledge of quality processes and ability to implement the ISO quality policy.
•    Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must demonstrate good judgment, problem solving skills, devotion to quality, and team building skills.
•    Ability to deliver well-constructed, polished presentations and briefings for clients and team members.
•    Ability to manage client expectations and coordinate with clients and staff to establish firm expectation alignments.
•    Ability to analyze and interpret instructions and standards and develop work instructions.
•    Ability to understand and interpret contract and Task Order language and can develop schedules to implement the tasking.
•    Familiar with financial management including budgeting, resource planning, financial reporting, and trends analysis.
•    Ability to develop work estimates and cost estimates for various engineering projects.
•    Must possess excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Visio). Must possess basic knowledge of MS Project and Earned Value Management software programs.
•    Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.

Education and Experience

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) is required.
•    Six (6) years applicable electrical engineering experience required.
•    Three (3) years of experience in direct management.
•    Experience using SolidWorks EPDM is preferred.
•    Experience using AutoCAD Electrical is preferred.
