Engineering Intern

Provides technical support and assists engineering consultants with inspections, analysis, and testing of vehicles, industrial machinery, consumer products, and other equipment. Assist in scene surveys, inspections, and generation of maps and layout drawings. Assists in the application of scientific principles, engineering methods, and techniques to a variety of projects.

The mandatory research project must be completed by the end of the Internship and is expected to require approximately 40 hours of effort (housing not included). The research topic shall be mutually agreed upon between the intern and supervisor.

Required Work Hours:

  • Internships with ESi are expected to be full-time, 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday (Business hours are from 8 am-5 pm).
  • If you are participating in our co-op program – we require that you take no more than 2 classes during your employment with ESi and can work a minimum of 32 hours per week.

Required Skills: 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Verbal and Written Communication.
  • Intermediate skills with CAD and office productivity software. Strong Mechanical Aptitude.

Preferred Skills: 

  • MATLAB, AutoCAD

Experience Required: 

  • Six months of working experience required.

Experience Preferred: 

  • Machine shop, machine tools, woodworking tools. Demonstrated familiarity with automotive systems. Data acquisition and instrumentation.

Education Required: 

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Must have completed at least Freshman year. Academic good standing at an ABET-accredited engineering school.

Preferred Education: 

  • Major in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, and Structural Engineering.
  • 3.30 GPA or higher, preferred.

Position Requirements: 

  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must be able to travel for trips of three days in length.
