Engineering Supervisor, B/W Regional Engineering

(Salary Range $80K - $145K)

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure implementation of Company safety, health, and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed
  • Ensure that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations
  • Performs safety talks, OJTs and ensures implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for subordinates
  • Ensures safe work practices are followed along with environmental considerations in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations are included in civil and electrical design packages
  • Supervise Designers and other subordinate titled personnel in the design, reinforcement and expansion of the electrical distribution systems
  • Enforces good housekeeping practices and ensures that subordinates work activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner, and in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Collaborates with the Engineering Manager to set goals and milestones for various tasks within programs/projects to ensure timely completion
  • Plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns work activities to personnel to meet operational needs, system requirements, and department goals
  • Fosters an environment that promotes engagement and inclusion with designers when performing technical review of proposed annual program and/or project specific work
  • Responsible for the professional development of designers regarding technical astuteness, financial knowledge, and environmental and safety guidelines associated with the design, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system
  • Evaluates employee performance and provides feedback to designers and other titled subordinates to encourage continued positive productivity metrics and/or corrective actions to improve efficiency
  • Responsible for conducting on-the-job training (OJT) modules for designers to develop fundamental skill sets required to perform necessary tasks and prepare for promotional title exams
  • Provides operational engineering support at the request of the electric control center personnel or during region/system wide incident command system (ICS) events
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving civil and/or electrical design packages prepared by Designers for the reinforcement, expansion, and/or maintenance of the distribution system
  • Ensures design packages are compliant with the Company's engineering specifications and Corporate Instructions (CI)
  • Evaluates engineering and other computer applications for their usefulness in providing better utilization of human resources and more efficient and economical operation
  • Works closely with field engineering and survey construction personnel to obtain relevant information to provide final approval on all regional engineering designs packages
  • Where applicable, reviews high tension specifications and customer operating procedures for proposed high tension services to ensure compliance with the Company's operating procedures, engineering plans, and specifications
  • Responsible to attend and at times coordinate meetings with various personnel internal to the Company to conduct open and transparent conversation revolving around project scope, budget, status, and change orders if necessary
  • Provide oversight to the designers regarding the necessary documentation (technical, financial, and environmental) required for the preparation of work order appropriations
  • Responsible for providing engineering recommendations utilizing results generated by various engineering software (PVL, WOLF, EDAP, etc.) that addresses operational needs of the distribution system
  • Facilitate in the restoration of customers after major storm events by enacting the engineering process regarding storm restoration procedures
  • Responsible for the maintenance and updating of engineering maps and records to account for assets that have been either installed or upgraded on the electric distribution system
  • Where applicable, supervises, directs, and perform planning and engineering studies for electric, gas and steam interference on Westchester public improvement projects such as transit projects, water mains, sewer facilities, and highway reconstruction
  • Work with cross-commodity teams to identify opportunities to bundle work in order maintain a quality of life to the public
  • Performs field walks as required
  • Assist Engineering Manager in preparation of capital budget
  • Promotes consistency in work practice within Regional Engineering
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years work experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science or Business

Relevant Work Experience

  • Knowledge of engineering calculations involving single and three phase power systems include but not limited to voltage drop, short circuit, and power-flow/load-flow Required
  • Knowledge of overhead distribution system designs and construction standards Preferred
  • Knowledge of underground network and radial design and construction standards Preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience with equipment and apparatus, which includes but not limited to cables and transformers, necessary to construct the various overhead and underground electrical distribution system Preferred
  • Knowledge and/or experience with CAD applications such as Auto-CAD and/or MicroStation Preferred
  • Understanding of the Work Management System and Logica software Preferred
  • Supervisory experience Preferred
  • Project Management experience Preferred

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able to walk, climb in order to complete required field visits
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed
