Discovery Team Internship Summer 2024

Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate – Discovery Team Internship

Organization

The S&T’s Discovery Team focuses on the development and advancement of nascent and disruptive technical capabilities, while enhancing existing capabilities. Through the implementation of varying tiers of engagement, innovation and strategy, the Discovery Team facilitates capability development for the Hyper-Enabled Operator in the Future Operating Environment.

Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings (e.g., team/staff syncs, program reviews, vendor briefs). 
  • Read and review technical papers and evaluations.
  • Understand tools and resources required to perform risk assessments.
  • Learn how to use Microsoft tools, e.g., Power Apps and Power BI, to synthesize data management and informational tools for the Discovery Team to leverage.
  • Support and engage with various Engineers and Acquisition personnel.
  • Help to design, develop, and/or build various technical capabilities.
  • Participate in S&T Intern professional and leisure activities.
  • Maintain a journal outlining internship experiences.
  • Brief to leadership an overview of the internship experience and the projects completed during the semester.
  • Complete all intern surveys to provide feedback.

Qualifications

  • Must be eligible for a SECRET Security Clearance. Preferred if you already have a SECRET Security Clearance or higher.
  • Pass level 1 background check. 
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Must be an undergraduate student (sophomore, junior) with a major in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Engineering, Software Development, Cyber Security, Mathematics.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.  Must have a personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and colleagues.
  • Must possess deductive reasoning skills and be able to analyze and synthesize information for problem solving.

Time Commitment/Work Location

  • The time commitment is 15-29 hours per week for the summer semester. 
  • The primary work location(s) is/are expected to be in Tampa, FL.
  • Must be willing to travel.  

Rate of Pay

  • STEM positions: $17.50/hour
