(#R0014046) Engineering Consultant/Senior Consultant, Utility Exemption Studies

The Consultant / Senior Consultant works with a team to identify utility tax savings opportunities for our clients that come from thorough reviews of electricity and natural gas consumed in their manufacturing processes. Determining these savings requires an understanding of how the client computes each component of specified tax. This also involves researching tax issues and completing detailed calculations.

Duties and responsibilities of our Engineering Consultant/Senior Consultant role:

  • Create a positive team experience.
  • Travels to client locations to view operations and gather information.
  • Partners with other Transaction Tax Practice teams to maximize the client’s benefit of any tax recoveries related to utilities.
  • Responds to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.
  • Assists Manager with data collection, input, and analysis through the tax recovery process.
  • Reviews documentation and researches issues.
  • Works with raw data to complete complex calculations.
  • Inventories manufacturing sites with regard to items consuming electricity or natural gas.
  • Prepares utility studies to determine predominant use of electricity or natural gas.
  • Communicates effectively through written and verbal channels.
  • Negotiates tax resolutions with state agencies.

 

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering with at least one to seven years of manufacturing or energy-related tax experience. Position and compensation will vary based on experience level.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic knowledge of CAD (or similar) and Adobe Acrobat and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft® Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.

 

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Work Environment:

  • Standard indoor working environment.
  • Occasional long periods of sitting while working at computer.
  • Occasional long periods of standing while collecting data in the field.
  • Position requires regular interaction with employees and clients both in person and via e-mail and telephone.
  • Independent travel requirement: 25 to 50%.
