About the Position:

Under the direction of a Branch Chief in Maintenance Engineering and Asset Management Division, a Senior Transportation Engineer, or lead guidance of a Transportation Engineer (Range D), the incumbent is responsible for supporting Highway Maintenance (HM) transportation projects by preparing and coordinating Project Initiation Reports, Project Reports, Design Plans, Specifications and Cost Estimates and coordinating all required certifications through acceptance of construction contract for State Highway Operations and Protection Program (SHOPP), Major or Minor A & B projects via a multitude of delivery methods (e.g., Design Bid Build (DBB), Job Order Contract (JOC), Construction Manager General Contractor (CMGC), etc.). The incumbent prepares technical documents and various project-related documents and evaluates design alternatives in accordance with the latest applicable standards and guidance. The incumbent performs various transportation engineering tasks of average difficulty accomplished through understanding and applying Caltrans standards, manuals, guidelines, policies, directives, and computer software applications. Travel is required. The incumbent is required to have a current driver’s license when operating a State-owned or leased vehicle. Range D requires possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California State Board of Professional Engineers, Professional Engineers, Land Surveyor, and Geologists.
