DEEP Summer Worker (Professional Engineering)

Are you an engineering student, graduate, or possess experience in Engineering, and interested in learning what it's like to work as an engineer with the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection?

The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) is accepting applications for paid Summer Worker (Professional Engineering) positions in the Bureau of Water Protection & Land Reuse. 

As a Professional Engineering Summer Worker, you will be exposed to a variety of engineering tasks in the field of water resources. You will have an opportunity to see firsthand what it's like to be a Civil or Environmental Engineer at the DEEP. 

These temporary positions are full time on first shift, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, and are anticipated to start May 2024 and end by August 31, 2024.

All candidates applying for consideration should have:

  • A valid Driver's License to drive state vehicles to and from field/construction sites and town meetings.
  • The ability to use GIS (Geographic Information System) and other related computer applications.

In addition, any students applying should have:

  • Completed their Sophomore year if enrolled in a college engineering program.

Please also note, any students selected for interview will be required to provide a copy of their college transcript.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Reviewing basic design plans;
  • Performing mathematical computations and calculations;
  • Collecting, entering, and/or analyzing data;
  • Accompanying engineers on field reviews;
  • Assisting in construction inspection activities, assisting with the preparation of reports;
  • Performing other related duties as required.

After an exciting summer of experience at the DEEP, as a Summer Worker, you may decide that you want to apply for Engineer Trainee positions, when you are ready to graduate! An Engineer Trainee is DEEP's entry-level engineering position and requires a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or other acceptable experience to meet the Target Class of a Civil/Environmental Engineer 1.
