Engineering Intern

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is looking for a highly motivated junior-level college engineering intern to join our team of rocket scientists working on launch service contractor (LSC) vehicle solutions and excess ballistic missile (DXBM) rocket motors.  At the SAIC San Bernardino engineering center we are a multi-discipline team of Propulsion, Structures, Fluid Mechanics, Software, Controls, and Avionics engineers.

 

We support the Rocket System Launch Program (RSLP) which is a United States Space Force program that provides quick access to space to other government agencies.  We work with various launch vehicle contractors throughout the country and perform independent verification and validation (IV&V) of the launch vehicle designs.  In addition to RSLP IV&V, the center also supports the DXBM program which is responsible for the continued use and reliability of retired Minuteman and Peacekeeper ICBM assets; this includes various aspects of system testing including full scale static firing of rocket motors and the subsequent data analysis.

 

This internship opportunity will specifically be within the Propulsion Engineering group and will be under the direct supervision of the Lead Propulsion Engineer. The position will include working on a multitude of missions and tasks and will require some travel.

 

Roles and Responsibilities (including some or all of the following):

·       Assist the Lead Propulsion Engineer in various tasks and duties as needed

·       Assist in data collection and review for component qualification and acceptance

·       Assist in design review tasks as assigned by the Lead Propulsion Engineer

·       Assist in engineering tool and scripting development to support Propulsion Engineering

·       Resolve problems of moderate scope and engage assistance from more experienced team members where appropriate

·       Report progress, products, and recommendations to the technical staff and management

·       Review and/or prepare presentations and reports related to analyses

·       Attend mission meetings as needed with Lead Propulsion Engineer

Qualifications - External

Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

·       Currently working towards a Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related program

·       Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

·       Position requires a proactive, self-starting, independent, flexible engineer with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

·       Ability to obtain DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:

·       Experience with Matlab

·       Knowledge of rocket propulsion principles
