District Structures Maintenance Office (DSMO): The Intern will work under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to help in the improvement and creation of processes as it relates to structures management and analysis.

The Office seeks a talented individual that is eager to learn and to provide ideas to increase efficiency and improve customer service.

The DSMO is responsible for the management of all Bridge and Ancillary Structures within Miami Dade and Monroe Counties.

Our office performs engineering activities such as structural inspections, structures analysis, and repairs and maintenance. We use several data management tools to evaluate, and program work needs to maintain the bridge infrastructure in good and reliable conditions.

The Intern will be exposed to technical and managerial situations and acquire professional skills that are transferable to any engineering and project management jobs.
The Intern will participate in engineering activities to help to:
•    Improve the efficiency of Structures Field Reviews and Inspection
•    Improve the data processing and management
•    Evaluate and provide ideas for the improvement of current GIS applications
•    Create and update Excel Macros to generate reports for data analysis and project planning
•    Assist in the update and creation of project and contracts cost estimates
•    Complete data research and generate recommendations reports
•    Initiate recommendations for process improvements
•    Participate in field inspections and reviews to acquire hands on knowledge of the work performed
•    Participate in technical and management meetings to understand the mission and goals of the SDMO

Criteria

Students in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Bridge Inspection/Management, Industrial Engineering, Computer science, or related field; junior, senior, or graduate student; minimum GPA 3.0
