The Analytical Solutions Division (ASD) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc., has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Engineering Supervisor on-site at our Huntsville, AL location. The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the design, coordination and supervision of Engineering tasks related to the daily operation. Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with project commitments or specific objectives/tasks. Maintain quality standards, inventory, production data, and training within the Engineering group. Responsible for day-to-day coordination and administration of tasks by ensuring Assistant Engineering Supervisors and their teams adhere to quality and productivity standards while meeting client schedules. Will work with project managers to prepare work schedules and labor estimates.  The intricacy of assignments requires the exercise of considerable initiative, latitude, independent judgment, and the ability to design independently with only general technical direction.

 

What you’ll do as an Engineering Supervisor:

     * Foster effective communication within the Engineering team, between Engineering and other departments, and with project management

     * Supervise the efforts of the engineering/design/drafting group to ensure that design details and drawings are following established standards

     * Evaluate overall design effectiveness, cost, reliability, and safety

     * Provide engineering support, to include development and evaluation of a complex nature in a narrow area of specification to program management team

     * Serve as an engineering consultant and technical expert on mission-critical infrastructure, systems, and equipment

     * Meet the critical deadlines assigned

     * Ensure team places materials orders in a timely manner relative to projects

     * Prepare labor estimates required to design, draft, and document customer and company requirements for bid and proposal activities

     * Assist project teams in preparing presentations and demonstrations for internal/external stakeholders, customers, and leadership

     * Manage, schedule, and prioritize numerous Engineering group project tasks

     * Manage timesheets, set goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide counseling to direct reports.

     * Ensure Asst. Engineering Supervisors are doing the same with their direct reports

     * Train, coach, and develop direct reports. Ensure the Asst. Engineering Supervisors are doing the same with their direct reports

     * Identify trends and areas for improvement. Develop ways to identify opportunities for: cost reduction, manufacturing hours reduction, and improve product quality

     * Implement and coordinate drawing review cycle (utilize SolidWorks PDM software and any other necessary processes)

     * Work under only general direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions

     * Identify and evaluate new manufacturing technologies and integrate innovative materials and process improvements

 

Must Haves as an Engineering Supervisor:

     * Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering AND 5+ years relevant work experience; OR a H.S. diploma (or equivalent) and 12+ years’ relevant experience in Mechanical Design Engineer DoD manufacturing field

     * Must be a US Citizen

     * Ability to obtain & maintain DoD Secret Clearance

     * Advanced skills, with ability to create mechanical drawings using SOLIDWORKS CAD software

     * Excellent written and verbal communication skills

     * 3+ years' experience leading professional engineers or technical teams

     * Ability to manage and prioritize numerous assignments

     * Apply analytical, evaluative, and constructive expertise to meet the critical deadlines assigned

     * Be detail-oriented individual to design new equipment, supporting the needs of various clients

     * Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and tools

     * Provide engineering design and prototype build support for testing and customer demonstration

     * Independently determine and develop approach to solutions

     * Lifting up to 50lbs, standing, standing for long periods of time to include sitting, sitting for long periods of time, stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing and/or pulling

     * Be physically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, safety shoes, hearing protection and hand protection as required

 

Engineering Supervisor Wish List/Preferred:

     * Active / current SECRET Clearance from the US Department of Defense

     * 5+ years' experience supervising engineers or technical teams working in a DoD manufacturing and fast-paced prototyping environment

     * Certifications in SOLIDWORKS
