The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (DOT), Bureau of Engineering and Construction, District 1 Surveys Section, is looking to hire a Transportation Engineer Trainee with a target class of Transportation Engineer 1 (Construction Engineering) in Rocky Hill.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
- Location: Rocky Hill.
- Full Time, 40 hours per week.
- Monday through Friday.
- First Shift, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
- A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required and must be maintained.
- P-4 (Engineering and Scientific) bargaining unit.
- Applicants must be available to travel.
THE ROLE
The District 1 Surveys section performs various types of land surveying, including topographic mapping, boundary and construction surveys. The Transportation Engineer Trainee (Land Surveyor) will learn to:
- Operate survey field instruments, such as conventional and robotic Total Stations, Auto and Digital Levels, GPS receivers.
- Use surveying software to perform complex computations.
- Use Microstation/Bentley OpenRoads CADD (computer aided design and drafting) to prepare, revise and edit land surveys for mapping.
- Develop topographic mapping and DTM’s (Digital Terrain Models) for future Highway and Railroad construction projects and support ongoing construction projects.
- Perform related duties as required.
The ideal Transportation Engineer Trainee (Land Surveyor) will:
- Possess general knowledge of land surveying and transportation.
- Have experience with construction engineering theories, principles, and methods.
- Be skilled in computer aided design software (MicroStation· preferred) and other computer. applications including Word and Excel.
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- Possess organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Possess the ability to read and analyze construction plans and estimates.
