Engineering Intern

May - August 2020 • Titusville, FL

What I liked

Amazing networking opportunity, quality management, very skilled and brilliant team. Received real tasks that felt meaningful and challenging to complete.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship would have taken place completely in person, but due to Covid it was mostly remote.

Advice

Talk to as many people as you can, complete work early. Receiving a good evaluation at the end is important for getting a follow on offer.

Tool Design Intern

May - August 2022 • Grand Prairie, TX

What I liked

Very open and friendly atmosphere. We worked a 4/10 schedule so I had every Friday off, which was super nice. Was free to ask questions at anytime and reach out to just about anyone who might have a solution. Everyone was legitimately interested in helping me out and I felt integrated into the work community within a few weeks of being there. The work was also really interesting and stimulating. I also enjoyed working in the facility. There was a lot of cool stuff there and it broadened my horizons into what you could do with engineering.

What I wish was different

I wish I had received a more in-depth project to work on in the beginning, but I understand that there just wasn't a suitable work order at the time for a novice engineer.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions and put in the work. Take opportunities you might not originally consider.

College Tech Sr.

June 2022 • Orlando, FL

What I liked

It was super chill and I loved my team.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more opportunities to meet the other interns and see what they all do. I also wish I went on more tours and explored around the facility more

Advice

Don't be worried ab expectations, they don't expect you to be a master at your job on your first day. As long as you show improvement and are hard working, you'll be fine.

Automation Intern

June 2021 • Lexington, KY

What I liked

The overall enthusiasm and dedication in the work environment made me feel proud to work for Lockheed Martin. I was immediately treated like a part of the team and my development towards my future career goals was a focus throughout my time. The job itself was both challenging and rewarding. I was given all training and resources necessary to be successful but was also challenged to solve problems on my own. After a few months in the job I was trusted to meet with customers and conduct automations entirely on my own and this led to the most useful experience I had in my entire college career.

What I wish was different

I only wish I could’ve started earlier!

Advice

I would encourage a focus on learning during the first couple of months and spend as much time as possible to practice with the softwares. This will be crucial when you’re on your own and have to create automations for customers without assistance from other interns or superiors.

Systems Engineering Co-op

May - August 2023 • Palmdale, CA

What I liked

I liked the opportunities I had to interact with all programs and departments. Lockheed invested in me by allowing me to participate in many trainings. They provided a strong network for their co-ops. Tours, lectures, and socials were held for co-ops to network. The compensation was also a perk.

What I wish was different

The onboarding process had some bumps, but I onboarded during a transition period in the HR platform they used. Working for a large company has its perks including tuition reimbursement, pay, and others. However, one issue is there are many accounts, applications, programs and other services that need to be set up and learned.

Advice

It is very important to communicate clearly. A lot of technical and complex information needs to be communicated which is hard to do at first. I also recommend setting up meetings with people who have had experiences you want. They are almost always willing to talk and offer advice.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more opportunities for tours and application skills workshops. For example, teaching some common coding functions/solutions or 3D modeling software learning opportunities.

Radar Systems Engineer Intern

May - August 2023 • Moorestown, NJ

What I liked

I loved how integrated I was into my team. Working so closely with the team meant I knew exactly who I could go for to get help and who I could shadow if I didn't have any pending work. I also got the opportunity to work with a second team to diversify my experience.

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't be afraid to talk to other people and always ask for help when you need it. Also, don't be afraid to ask for more work. I wasn't always given enough work to do, but if you want the most out of your experience, you can shadow others or just learn from the available presentations.
